Liturgical Ministries for You!
The following ministries of our parish are means by which you may assist us in leading our congregation in worship:
Saint Demetrios Choir
Our choir has long enjoyed a solid and well-deserved reputation as one of the leading church choirs of our Metropolis of Chicago. Anyone is welcome to attend rehearsals and sing with our choir. Simply express your interest to the parish priest or our director, Mr. John Douglas.
Chanter(s)--Psaltis
The Byzantine Hymnological tradition is an ancient, sacred art. It does require specialized training for many services, although for the Divine Liturgy and the Holy Mysteries, this is not as crucial. However, the Metropolis of Chicago offers a "School of Byzantine Music" that holds classes in our area, and is a valuable means not only of learning the chant, but also the sacred liturgical tradition of the Church. Classes meet September-May in Schererville, IN. If you have an interest in serving as a chanter, or simply learning of the hymnology of the Church, please contact your parish priest.
Acolytes (Altar Boys)
The acolytes assist the clergy in the conduct of the divine services in numerous, practical ways. Young men of the parish wishing to assist in this manner may contact the parish priest. In most cases, we require a minimum age of ten (10) years to participate, but exceptions are made for boys who express a certain maturity and desire to serve. There is also no upper age limit.
Readers
On the Lord's Day and during other services, there is an great deal of reading from the Apostolic Letters, prophecies and Psalms. If you would like to assist us in public reading before the congregation, please contact the parish priest.
